Our Story

Origins

GeulisWana was born from a concern for the future of traditional artisans in Tasikmalaya.

For generations, the region has been known for its remarkable craftsmanship from embroidery and weaving to the iconic Payung Geulis, a handcrafted umbrella decorated with intricate paintings. Despite its cultural value, many traditional crafts face challenges in the modern fashion industry, including limited market access and decreasing interest from younger generations.

GeulisWana was created as a bridge between heritage and modern fashion. By transforming traditional Payung Geulis motifs into textile designs and combining them with natural dye techniques from pandan leaves, the brand seeks to bring new life to cultural craftsmanship.

Through this approach, GeulisWana not only creates fashion but also supports local artisans, pandan farmers, and traditional craft communities, ensuring that cultural heritage continues to thrive.

Philosophy

At the heart of GeulisWana lies a simple belief: True beauty comes from harmony between nature, culture, and people.

Our philosophy is inspired by the meaning of our name.

Geulis represents beauty, expressed through artistic design, colors, and cultural motifs. Wana represents nature, the source of life and inspiration for our materials and processes.

Every collection reflects this balance. From the use of natural dye derived from pandan leaves to the handmade techniques of local artisans, each piece embodies a commitment to sustainability and cultural preservation.

GeulisWana believes that fashion should not only be beautiful to wear, but also meaningful in its story and responsible in its impact.

Timeless pieces inspired by nature and heritage

Craft

Every GeulisWana piece is created through a thoughtful process that respects both nature and craftsmanship.

Our production begins with natural fabrics such as cotton and linen. The textiles are then dyed using plant-based pigments extracted from pandan leaves, producing soft organic tones unique to each fabric.

The dyeing process involves traditional techniques including mordanting, natural dye extraction, and fixation, resulting in colors that are gentle, natural, and environmentally conscious.

Afterward, the fabrics are transformed into garments, bags, and accessories through careful handmade production. We collaborate with Payung Geulis artisans, pandan farmers, and natural dye artisans, ensuring that traditional skills continue to be preserved.

Because each piece is crafted by hand, no two pieces are exactly alike.
Every GeulisWana creation carries the mark of time, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage.

GeulisWana is a sustainable fashion brand that celebrates the harmony between nature, culture, and craftsmanship.

The name GeulisWana comes from two words: “Geulis”, meaning beauty in Sundanese, and “Wana”, meaning forest or nature. Together, they represent the philosophy of beauty that grows from nature and cultural heritage.

Our collections reinterpret traditional inspirations from Tasikmalaya, especially the artistic motifs of Payung Geulis into contemporary modest fashion. Each piece is created using natural materials and plant-based dyeing techniques, bringing together modern design with the authenticity of Indonesian craftsmanship.

At GeulisWana, fashion is more than clothing.
It is a story about culture, nature, and the people who bring every piece to life.
